Sierra Vista Golf Center, 2770 St Andrews Drive, Sierra Vista

We are privileged to welcome distinguished author, TV producer and naturalist Stephen Moss as our Keynote speaker. He will be talking about his book Ten Birds that Changed the World.

Stephen Moss is one of Britain’s leading nature writers. Based in Somerset, he was born in London and read English at Cambridge before joining the BBC. He produced the BAFTA award-winning Springwatch, The Nature of Britain and Birds Britannia, while his books include a series of ‘bird biographies’, and Ten Birds that Changed the World. After leading the MA Nature & Travel Writing at Bath Spa University, he is now a Visiting Research Fellow there, and a Special Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham. A lifelong naturalist, Stephen has travelled to all seven continents in search of wildlife.
Ten Birds that Changed the World
For the whole of human history, we have lived alongside birds. We have hunted
and domesticated them for food; venerated them in our mythologies, religions,
and rituals; exploited them for their natural resources; and been inspired by them
for our music, art, and poetry.

In Ten Birds That Changed the World, Stephen Moss tells the gripping story of
this long and intimate relationship through key species from all seven of the
world’s continents. From Odin’s faithful Raven companions to Darwin’s finches,
and from the Wild Turkey of the Americas to the Emperor Penguin as potent
symbol of the climate crisis, this is a fascinating, eye-opening, and endlessly
engaging work of natural history.
